Why Byhalia?

A convergence of affections

We love Byhalia. It took some time, but with some age & seasoning came a deep appreciation for the significance of place and roots. My great-grandfather was born in a house on Church Street. His father owned and ran a cotton gin here and was a strong part of the Presbyterian Church around the turn of the 20th century. Some part of my family has lived here ever since. That makes me a 5th generation and my kids 6th generation Byhalians.

We also love the local church. The church, when it is healthy, is such a beautiful thing. It is wild to see the way God unites people from all sorts of different backgrounds and brokenness. The gospel makes us family! We love leading the church to be Christ-centered and bible-saturated.

The Oaks Church is being planted out of a convergence of these two affections and a growing need for a strong church in the community. The story to come will be a good one indeed. I can’t wait to see what is around the bend for Byhalia and for this new church that is getting started here. We’re praying that God would call many into His kingdom and use this new church for His glory.
